Communicating Science: Green Infrastructure Use in Addressing Stormwater Challenges

This capstone begins with a primer on water and wastewater infrastructure, leading into the challenges posed by heavy rain events and the accompanying large quantity of stormwater that floods the infrastructure. Students examine a wide range of existing options for dealing with stormwater, including gray systems (traditional holding tanks and Combined Sewer Systems) as well as green systems (bioswales, blue roofs, etc.). Students develop an innovative outreach and communication strategy for sustainable stormwater techniques, enabling New York’s EPA office.
